Carley Varley New Single “Monochrome”
“Monochrome” marks the beginning of a bold new chapter for singer-songwriter Carley Varley, as she steps into a powerful rock persona with the first single from her upcoming EP, Anatomy of Loss. Representing the anger stage in the five stages of grief, the track captures the raw emotion and fury that often follow the end of a meaningful relationship.
Carley’s Anatomy of Loss EP is a concept project that explores the emotional journey after heartbreak. Each song delves into a different stage of grief — depression, bargaining, anger, denial, and acceptance — offering listeners an intimate and cathartic experience through music.
Though she began her musical career as a pop artist, Carley has found her true voice in a heavier, more alternative sound. Influenced by bands like Paramore, Linkin Park, Evanescence, and The Pretty Reckless, she channels that same intensity in both her vocal delivery and songwriting. Monochrome is a fiery anthem of rage, confusion, and disillusionment — the moment you realize the person you once loved isn’t who you thought they were.
The song is deeply personal. Inspired by the end of her 11-year relationship, Carley poured her heartbreak into lyrics and melodies as a way to process the pain. “Monochrome” may sound like a revenge rock song on the surface, but underneath it’s about betrayal — and the realization that the years invested in love weren’t wasted, but forever changed.
The rest of the Anatomy of Loss EP promises to bring the same level of emotional depth and rock grit, with heavy guitar-driven arrangements and Carley’s signature powerhouse vocals. She’s joined by her talented bandmates Fred Sedgeley, Alex Tompkins, and Jordan Shepherd — together, they bring these songs to life on stage.
Fans can catch Carley Varley live at:
The Fleece, Bristol – July
The Bedford, London – October
Chaplin’s Cellar Bar, Bournemouth – November
Following appearances at Icebreaker Festival and Teddy Rocks Festival earlier this year, Carley and her band are making waves on the UK music scene. Their dream? To one day perform at iconic festivals like Download, Isle of Wight, and Glastonbury — a goal that seems well within reach now that they’ve found their sound.
With over eight years of experience performing solo in pubs, bars, and festivals — sometimes playing up to six gigs a weekend — Carley Varley is no stranger to the stage. She remains one of the most booked live performers in Hampshire and Dorset. But now, her focus is shifting toward original music, and sharing more of her own story through songs rather than covers.
“Monochrome” isn’t just a single — it’s a statement. And Anatomy of Loss is shaping up to be Carley Varley’s most personal and powerful project yet.
