Hunter Benson - Last To Know - Review
NMR -
The intro is about as country rock as they come, with overdriven guitar licks, solid drums, and a tight rhythm section. This track has width—and lots of it—with the instrumentation spread to the stereo extremes.
Hunter’s vocal sits perfectly, delivering melodic lyrics in his own distinctive style. All of this is backed up by some excellent guitar riffs and strong arrangement. Overall, this is a country rock playlist track for sure.
About Hunter Benson
Hunter Benson is a Rock, Country, and Americana artist from Redondo Beach, California, crafting a sound that draws from Southern rock, grunge, and classic Americana. His music blends guitar-driven grit with reflective lyricism and a strong sense of melody, rooted firmly in lived experience rather than abstract storytelling.
Benson writes from a place of truth — grounded in themes of struggle, faith, and resilience. For him, music is more than expression; it’s a way to process loss and search for understanding.
At just three years old, Benson survived a lightning strike that tragically took his father’s life. That moment continues to shape his songwriting today, informing themes of grief, anger, surrender, and the ongoing search for meaning.
His upcoming EP Seeking, due March 27, 2026, brings these themes into sharp focus. Across five tracks, Benson explores loss and accountability while trying to make sense of change and forgiveness.
“Come and Gone,” set to appear in the 2026 feature film Pellett, reflects on how quickly life can shift. “Heaven’s Letter” revisits his father’s passing, while the title track reaches outward in search of guidance. Closing track “Last to Know” leans into a heavier rock sound, turning inward to examine what truly matters before time runs out.
With sold-out hometown shows and a finalist placement at the BeachLife Festival Battle of the Bands, Benson continues to build momentum. His growing audience is drawn to his direct, personal songwriting — music that resonates far beyond his own story, speaking to anyone navigating loss, doubt, or the need for connection.
