“A great melodic track, a nice mix of synth Pop / guitar / vocal, and definitely worth a listen “

London: Today, IVERSEN release the video for their latest single, ‘Amsterdam’, an idealist-pop song that captures the experience of wandering alone in a foreign city, lost in the light reflecting off the canals, seeking the warmth of friends, and reflecting on the future. Written in light of his bandmate and co-songwriter Jonathan Royall’s stag do in the Dutch capital, Josh Iverson’s confessional songwriting turns lived experience into poetry.

The video for ‘Amsterdam’ is an earnestly DIY affair. Filmed, animated and edited by Josh himself, the video jokingly makes clear its modest budget, featuring the band and the Hackney canals in lieu of the song’s namesake. The track builds from icy guitars and pads that channel early 80’s synth experimentalism and sophisti-pop flourishes of Prefab Sprout into reflective pop mastery. Josh’s undeniably contemporary lens processes these memories and emotions as the song climaxes into a cacophony of dreamscapes, filtered saxophone, and catharsis.

Speaking of the song, Josh explains: “This song is for Jonny – an appreciation of him as a friend and collaborator. So many of our tracks have a romantic slant to them, and one of the most important things to me are the friends in my life, so I wanted to channel my love for him in this track.”

‘Amsterdam’ follows a flurry of releases, including the bombastic break-up anthem, ‘Overwrite x Change’, as well as a live compilation of two performances released as a limited VHS tape & cassette, LIVERSEN: Two Nights In London. You can catch IVERSEN live next month, where they will be co-headlining a benefit gig with Donor Lens to save the beloved Leytonstone venue, Luna, as well as supporting Brothertiger at the London date of their UK tour at The Dome.
