NMR - New release from Chicago based Rock / pop band fronted by singer songwriter John Hermie, this track has pace, energy , its guitar based Id say, with some nice arrangments and chord structures.
There is a Tom Petty vibe in there somewhere for me at least, not sure if its the vocal style or the melodies, but it sound goo either way !

Indie rock outfit Modern History return with their powerful new single, “Comfort of Pain,” a raw and reflective take on the emotional toll of life in an always-online world. The track serves as the lead single from the band’s upcoming EP, due for release in late September or early October.
Hailing from Chicago, the band is built around the creative partnership of John Hermle (vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards) and Pete Carparelli (drums, bass, guitar, synths, and mixing). Their live lineup expands with Joe Richieron bass and Zach Sutton on drums, bringing added depth and energy to their performances.
Since their debut album Written by the Victors (2011) and the follow-up Remember (2021), Modern History have steadily evolved their sound, blending introspective lyricism with richly textured indie rock arrangements.
“Comfort of Pain” began life as a stripped-back idea in the aftermath of the 2022 midterm elections, shaped by hours of doom-scrolling and the emotional weight of constant digital input. The track later took its final form following the 2024 election, as Hermle revisited and refined its themes.
“At its core, the song explores how easy it is to fall into a pit of despondency,” Hermle explains. “Scrolling through platforms like Reddit, Instagram, and Facebook can feel comforting in the moment—especially when you find a community that shares your feelings. There’s something therapeutic about not feeling alone. But staying in that space too long can hold you back from growing, and I wanted that tension to come through, particularly in the final chorus.”
With “Comfort of Pain,” Modern History capture the push and pull between connection and isolation in the digital age, delivering a track that feels both emotionally resonant and sonically compelling.
The single is available now on all major streaming platforms, with more details about the upcoming EP expected in the coming weeks.
