About - Verse Metric

The “atmospheric indie tune masters” are back. Verse Metrics return with their long-awaited debut album, Descents, marking a confident evolution of the band’s sound as they explore themes of emotion, memory and connection.

Recorded with Jamie Savage at Chem19 Studios — known for work with The Twilight Sad, Errors and FOUND — and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music, whose credits include Frightened Rabbit, Sufjan Stevens and LCD Soundsystem, Descents brings together the cerebral precision of math rock with the widescreen emotion of post-rock.

The album creates expansive soundscapes that shift between beauty and unease, with each track driven by urgent rhythms, haunting vocals and soaring, cinematic crescendos.

Formed in 2009, Verse Metrics comprise Robert Dick (vocals, guitar), Al Conway (guitar), Kevin O’Hagan (bass), Pete Colquhoun (drums) and Chris MacKinnon (keys). The band have built a reputation for meticulous musicianship and emotional depth, performing more than 100 live shows and releasing the acclaimed EPs VM1, Radians and We’ll Be Listening And Remembering Until We’re Old And Unsteady through Lonely Voyage Records.

Over the years, Verse Metrics have received support from Clash Magazine, Prog Magazine, The Scotsman, The Herald, Artrocker, BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio Scotland and Kerrang! Radio.

The artwork for Descents reflects the band’s attention to detail and long-form approach to storytelling. The bespoke artwork has been commissioned from Michelle Campbell, whose evolving painting process will be revealed gradually alongside each single release. The process will culminate in the unveiling of the complete artwork and album later in 2026.
